How to Order

How can I order some pieces?
Please see How to Order

Will my pieces be exactly the same as the pictures on this site?
For the antique pieces, they are all unique and small variations in size and detail should be expected. Each items' small variations makes your purchase completely unique and enhances its value. TouchWood reserves the right to change, modify or improve any designs, specifications and details without prior notice. All measurements are in centimeters.

When will my pieces arrive?
After we receive your order we will notify you of an approximate arrival date. Approximate time will be 6 weeks for restoration and approximately 4 weeks for shipment.

How will my chosen pieces be packed?
To ensure your pieces arrive safe and sound each piece is first covered in bubble wrap, then corrugated card and finally protected by a hardwood box.

Do my pieces need to be fumigated?
If you live in the USA or Australia your pieces will be fumigated - we organise this and is included in the shipment costs.

I've heard pieces can crack, is this true?
Our factory takes every measure to prevent this from happening. Your piece is placed in a "drying" room for approximately 2 weeks which will be set to the average humidity of where you are. It is only after this that restoration begins. However there is still a chance cracking will occur. As a further preventative measure we suggest you place a glass of water under of inside the piece if possible and keep it topped up.

Are the pieces antique?
The majority of pieces are from the Ching (Qing) Dynasty (1644-1911). We also can supply reproductions - which are always made out of old wood to minimise the cracking risk.

How were they made?
The method of joinery used in all Classical Chinese furniture of the Ming and Ching dynasties was based entirely on the use of tenon-and-mortise, and other variations such as the mitre joint. Glue and other adhesives were avoided. This technique however was not invented by Chinese furniture makers - it dates back to 1500BC when it was used by the ancient egyptians.
